Maya 6.0 on Gentoo Linux

Another long day at work passing by... Worked over 12 hours today, and that on a saturday after a whole week with the same stuff... puh, have to take a break soon. To bad I have to do some work tomorrow to. Anyway I finally got Maya 6.0 gracefully working under Gentoo Linux with Gnome 2.8 tonight. Yey :-) This is how I got it to work:

First of all I saw there was a masked ebuild for Maya 6.0 in portage, so I mounted my CD-ROM drive and set the CD_ROM variable to the Maya disc with export CD_ROM="/mnt/cdrom".

I got a few errors when I did a emerge /usr/portage/media-gfx/maya/maya-6.0.ebuild to emerge the masked ebuild. So a went into that ebuild and just corrected the MAYA_LOC to point to where my files actually where.

Then because of this "ALT+mouse button navigation" in Maya conflicting with "Gnome's ALT+mouse button move window feature" I needed to break this conflict. After Googling around for a while I finally found out what how to change the setting:

knut@lifebook knut $ gconf-editor /apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier
